I’m on a very serious shake-down and even you look a bit suspicious.
My fav vintage-looking Campbells-Soup-Kids t-shirt is missing.
The washer and dryer are prime suspects, but they’re not talking.
Last seen: In the kitchen, baking a cake.
It was time for the glaze. Out came the big box of powdered sugar and, before my brain could stop my hands…
*ploompf!*
Powdered sugar…

It was all over my face, snowing onto the countertop, the floor, the dog, my fav vintage-looking Campbells- Soup-Kids T.
Don’t look at me like that. You know you’ve done it, too, at least once in your lifetime.
But, I do this aaaall the time
and
I know better.
Sugar gets me so excited that I lose myself, like a kid in a candy store.
So, even though I give you specific measurements for cake glazes, I never follow my own advice.
After I dumped nearly 3 pounds of powdered sugar, mostly into the bowl, I had to to something with it because transferring it back into the box would probably have made a bigger mess.
The result?
Enough glaze to cover 53 cakes.
How many did I bake?
One.
So, if ever you find yourself in the same predicament…not that I’m saying you would, since you are much more precise than me in obeying recipe instructions,
this is what you do with all that extra glaze:
Put it into your coffee!
Yes, you read correctly. There’s nothing wrong with your eyes.
Why in hell would you waste perfectly good glaze, especially if you put fresh orange zest into it?
OMG throwing that away would guarantee you a reserved seat on the bullet train to Hell.
Orange Sweetness
1/4 cup powdered sugar
zest of 1/2 an orange
2 Tb fresh orange juice or water
Mix all and store in a jar, refrigerated.
Your coffee couldn’t be happier. This stuff tastes so good, every sip will make you forget you’re in the office, droning along your boring ol’ everyday tasks.
And, if you don’t like coffee, put it into your tea.
It’s such a brilliant idea,
the Queen might even knight you.
I still don’t know where my fav Campbells-Soup-Kids t-shirt is.
But now that I have this orange-scented coffee,
I no longer care!
Haha my friend, you are a genius – market this 'creamer' idea I would totally use it if I drank coffee and tea!
Cheers

What a great idea… When life gives you lemons…
Awesome idea, this sounds wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
Oh. My. Goodness. You just did, didn't you? Made the world stop for a full second? I knew it! I do that with my sugar *all the time* and goodness knows I can remedy it now!
This was inspired by one of my creative directors, a lovely lady who advised me to put orange zest into my coffee. And here we are!
Glad to be of service. 🙂
I wouldn't have thought to put the yummy glaze in my coffee…but I will now. You're so smart!
Not smart – just a sweet-tooth! :0)
